Barclay Church
...making known God's love in Jesus Christ...

Welcome

The Church of Scotland

Welcome to the web site of Barclay Church. Designed by Pilkington, Barclay is an incredible building. But there are plenty of other churches and interesting buildings in Edinburgh. What's different about Barclay is that it is a genuinely mixed group of people; old and young, families and students.

All sorts of people are part of Barclay - some who have been part of the church and lived in the area all their lives, some who are only here for a year or two while studying in Edinburgh.

Services and activities

There are two main Sunday services. At 11am there is a fairly traditional service. The 6:30pm service is more relaxed: more modern songs, more participation by the congregation, a wider range of worship styles. For more information, see the What's On section. Text and recordings of recent sermons are available in the Sermon Archive.

There's an active children's programme, with groups meeting Sunday by Sunday. In particular a large number of secondary school age are part of our "Next" group and are invoved in Barclay's own "Silly Sheep Puppet Company".

We run Alpha courses twice a year - in the autumn and in the Spring. Alpha is an informal introduction to, and a chance to discuss, the Christian faith.

Being part of Barclay

You may already be involved in a number of other. Lots of folk just want to come along to services and, if that is true of you, we would be very glad to welcome you to Barclay. But if you want to be more involved there is plenty going on; for example opportunities for prayer during the week, involvement with Christian Aid, and teams taking responsibility for various aspects of the church's life.

There are number of housegroups and there is a group for students and those in the 20s and 30s called "The Net". There are also groups for older people, "Lifebuilders" is for those with small children, and several general groups.

This website is still partly under construction, please be patient if some sections are still marked as being under construction. Any comments on any aspect of the site please contact the Webmaster.
